All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to make with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. Then, I established a problem with my knee. A semi-serious issue. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, which in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The very first couple of weeks were fine I. managed to get all the little tasks that pile up done. In the 3rd week, a despair started to creep in. I had absolutely nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the depression set in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many individuals would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of women at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other females. It's a extremely little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her hubby and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. I never ever talked to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
