All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been much like you. A semi-serious problem. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-lasting ill, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The first few weeks were great I. managed to get all the little jobs that accumulate done. Then in the third week, a despair began to creep in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the anxiety set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past your house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of women at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of it all. I believe it's time I gave you a total image of our street and individuals who survive on it. It will come in helpful in the future. It's a extremely little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her partner and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever spoke to him, even though what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
