We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might walk, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, implemented on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the depression set in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would disrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her partner and is in the procedure of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I talked to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never spoke to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
