All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up until September, I had actually been much like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to make with the day instead of what my neighbours would be up to. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, implemented on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes throughout the street. I began to choose up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of women at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her hubby and is in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke with them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever talked to him, although what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
