This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who walk past your house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
