All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a reservation. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking almost constantly when the anxiety embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever talked to him, although what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
