With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of females in your home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have 2 replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not know the half of everything. I think it's time I offered you a complete picture of our street and individuals who survive on it. It will can be found in useful in the future. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage boys. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
