All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been similar to you. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, implemented on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continually when the anxiety embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that most women at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other females. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
