With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
