We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, enforced on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. After smoking cigarettes nearly constantly when the depression embeded in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past your house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that most women at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of it all. I believe it's time I offered you a complete image of our street and the people who survive on it. It will come in beneficial later on. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. She recently separated from her hubby and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some beginners.
