After smoking almost continually when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
