We have a no smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and say that most women at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't know the half of it all.
