We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, implemented on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her partner and is in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke with them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke to him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
