We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been similar to you. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After smoking practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that most women at house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
