After smoking almost continuously when the anxiety set in, I started to notice the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would interrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women.
