The very first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little jobs that pile up done. Then in the 3rd week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes throughout the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that many women at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
