All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to make with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious issue. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might stroll, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The very first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that accumulate done. In the 3rd week, a malaise began to sneak in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly constantly when the anxiety set in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of ladies in the house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you do not know the half of all of it. I think it's time I provided you a complete image of our street and the people who survive on it. It will come in useful in the future. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
