This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the anxiety set in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and state that most females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies.
