After cigarette smoking almost constantly when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who stroll past your house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat.
