From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past your house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
