We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). After cigarette smoking almost constantly when the anxiety set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of females at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other ladies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She recently separated from her hubby and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever spoke with him, despite the fact that what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
