We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had been just like you. We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our home, implemented on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking almost continually when the depression embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would disrupt me now, and say that many women at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
