This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost constantly when the anxiety embeded in, I began to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that most women at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other ladies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
