All of us go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a reservation. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been just like you. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking nearly constantly when the anxiety embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that most women at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy cope with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
