All of us accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a reservation. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been just like you. We have a no smoking policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After cigarette smoking practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and say that the majority of ladies at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
