From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly constantly when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
