From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes nearly continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that a lot of ladies in your home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you do not understand the half of it all. I believe it's time I gave you a total picture of our street and individuals who live on it. It will come in helpful later on. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
