We all accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had been just like you. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continually when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
