We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a 2nd thought. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that the majority of women in the house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you do not know the half of it all. I think it's time I gave you a total photo of our street and the people who live on it. It will come in helpful later on. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
