We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a doubt. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day instead of what my neighbours would be up to. Then, I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious issue. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-lasting sick, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little jobs that accumulate done. Then in the third week, a malaise began to creep in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking cigarettes policy in our house, implemented on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the depression set in, I began to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of individuals who walk past your house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of females in the house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't understand the half of all of it. I believe it's time I offered you a total image of our street and the people who live on it. It will come in beneficial later on. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
