We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continually when the anxiety embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. She recently separated from her other half and remains in the process of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I haven't presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and father Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Of course, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never ever spoke to him, even though what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
