We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a 2nd thought. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and say that most women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
