We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my daddy) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking almost continuously when the depression embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of ladies at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other females. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage kids. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She recently separated from her other half and is in the procedure of moving.
