We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had actually been similar to you. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to make with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. The very first few weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that accumulate done. Then in the third week, a malaise started to sneak in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, implemented on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 houses across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the anxiety set in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would disrupt me now, and state that most females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other females. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. She just recently separated from her spouse and remains in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my knowledge. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never talked to him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
