I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
