This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes practically continuously when the depression set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of the people in the street. I started to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat.
