We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a 2nd idea. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). After smoking almost continually when the anxiety embeded in, I started to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females tackled their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that many women in the house do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of all of it. I believe it's time I provided you a total picture of our street and individuals who live on it. It will come in useful in the future. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. She just recently separated from her spouse and is in the procedure of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our house. I have not introduced myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and papa Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I spoke with them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke with him, although what I'm about to tell you, so this is the last time I mention him.
