We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. After smoking cigarettes almost continually when the anxiety set in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that many ladies at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage kids. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. She recently separated from her husband and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I live with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't understand their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Obviously, whenever I spoke to them, I utilized terms like a neighbour to bridge this gap in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they appeared to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City. I never spoke with him, although what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I mention him.
