We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking cigarettes almost continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would interrupt me now, and state that a lot of females at house do what I do, stop and chat with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this website is the removed home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
