With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the home. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that most ladies at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then beside that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked somewhere in the City.
