We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a second idea. Setting off to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might stroll, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working.

We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continuously when the depression set in, I started to discover the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hey there and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many individuals would interrupt me now, and state that many women at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
