After smoking practically continuously when the anxiety set in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat.
