All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had actually been much like you. Triggering to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day instead of what my neighbours would depend on. Then, I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious problem. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might walk, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I signed up with the ranks of the long-lasting ill, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The very first few weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that accumulate done. In the third week, a despair began to sneak in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, enforced on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After smoking practically continuously when the depression embeded in, I began to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the individuals who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I usually stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
