We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a reservation. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up till September, I had actually been just like you. Triggering to work every day, worried more about what I was going to do with the day rather than what my neighbours would be up to. Then, I developed a problem with my knee. A semi-serious problem. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I might walk, run, and climb, but it did stop me from driving, which in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-term ill, continued to receive my paycheque, and sat and took it easy. The very first few weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that pile up done. Then in the 3rd week, a despair started to sneak in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, imposed on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking nearly continually when the depression embeded in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hi and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most individuals would interrupt me now, and state that many females at house do what I do, talk and stop with the other women. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and after that next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
