With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat.
