We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our home, imposed on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking practically continuously when the depression set in, I began to notice the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their day-to-day regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of individuals who walk past your home. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and state that many ladies in the house do what I do, chat and stop with the other women. I have two replies. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They remain in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She recently separated from her spouse and is in the procedure of moving. She is in her mid 30's and has two pre-teen children Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a good time. I'm John (28 ), and I deal with my mum Chrissie (45) and dad Bob (52 ). Next along are some newcomers. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself.
