We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without giving it a doubt. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had been much like you. It didn't stop me from doing most things, I could stroll, run, and climb, however it did stop me from driving, and that in turn stopped me from working. I joined the ranks of the long-lasting ill, continued to get my paycheque, and sat and took it simple. The very first few weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that pile up done. In the third week, a despair started to creep in. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I started to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our home, enforced on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This means that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost constantly when the depression embeded in, I started to observe the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they came back when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies tackled their everyday regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and state that most women in your home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and two, you don't understand the half of everything. I believe it's time I gave you a total picture of our street and the people who reside on it. It will can be found in useful later. It's a very little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the detached house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons.

On the right-hand side of the road, we start with Linda's home. She recently separated from her partner and remains in the process of moving. She remains in her mid 30's and has 2 pre-teen daughters Emma and Becky. Next is our home. I have not presented myself yet, so now would be a great time. I'm John (28 ), and I cope with my mum Chrissie (45) and daddy Bob (52 ). Next along are some newbies. At this time in November, I didn't know their names, so-called them Dick and Helen to myself. Naturally, whenever I talked to them, I used terms like a neighbour to bridge this space in my understanding. They were a couple, in their late 30's, early 40's, and they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City. I never ever spoke with him, although what I'm about to inform you, so this is the last time I discuss him.
