All of us support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without offering it a doubt. Here's where I vary from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been much like you. The very first couple of weeks were great I. managed to get all the little tasks that accumulate done. Then in the 3rd week, a despair started to creep in. I had absolutely nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, enforced on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This implies that whenever we wish to smoke, we have to stand at the back entrance. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two houses across the street. After cigarette smoking almost continually when the anxiety embeded in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these women set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the house. I began with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and state that many females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you do not understand the half of it all. I believe it's time I provided you a total picture of our street and individuals who survive on it. It will come in helpful later on. It's a really little street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
