We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second idea. I began to detect when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the canine for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these females went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hi and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Most people would disrupt me now, and state that a lot of females at home do what I do, stop and talk with the other ladies. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy deal with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's home. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
