We all go along with this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second idea. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily regimens.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I usually walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of individuals would disrupt me now, and say that many women at house do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and after that next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is always very first with any gossip. Next up is Graham's home, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Last on this site is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their two teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked somewhere in the City.
