We all accompany this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up up until September, I had actually been much like you. Setting off to work every day, concerned more about what I was going to make with the day instead of what my neighbours would be up to. Then in the third week, a malaise started to creep in. I had nothing to do, no place to go, and loads of time to kill. I began to get depressed.

We have a no cigarette smoking policy in our house, enforced on the bulk (me & my dad) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we want to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After cigarette smoking nearly continuously when the anxiety embeded in, I started to see the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who walk past the house. I began with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I generally stroll down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would interrupt me now, and say that many ladies in your home do what I do, stop and talk with the other women. I have two replies. One, I'm male, and 2, you don't know the half of it all. I think it's time I offered you a total picture of our street and the people who live on it. It will be available in useful later. It's a very small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then beside that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish female in her 60's. Last on this website is the separated house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the road, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
