I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they came back when they went out shopping, when they took the pet for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies set about their daily routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with the majority of the people who walk past your house. I started with a friendly hey there and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. The majority of people would interrupt me now, and say that many females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. I have two replies. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's home, she's a huge Irish woman in her 60's. Then last on this site is the detached home where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children. They are in their late 30's.
