We all support this, moving through the days, weeks, and years without providing it a second thought. Here's where I differ from the rest of you. Up until September, I had been similar to you. I had nothing to do, nowhere to go, and loads of time to eliminate. I began to get depressed.

We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the bulk (me & my father) by the minority (my mom). This suggests that whenever we wish to smoke, we need to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of 2 homes across the street. After cigarette smoking almost constantly when the depression set in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With absolutely nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their day-to-day routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the people who stroll past the home. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I normally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. Many people would disrupt me now, and say that a lot of women at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a extremely small street, 8 semi-detached houses and 1 separated (that's 5 buildings in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a vacant home, and then next to that is. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a big Irish lady in her 60's. Last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage boys.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
