From here, you can see the entrance to our neighbour's house and the fronts of two houses across the street. After smoking cigarettes practically constantly when the depression set in, I began to observe the comings and goings of individuals in the street. I started to pick up on when the mums strolled their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they beinged in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the regular times and I would find myself unconsciously having a cigarette when these ladies went about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with most of the individuals who stroll past the house. I started with a friendly hello and advanced to the point where I generally walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of individuals would disrupt me now, and state that the majority of females at home do what I do, stop and chat with the other women. It's a really small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 detached (that's 5 structures in all). Down the left side (as you stand at the top of the street) there is a uninhabited house, and then next to that is. where Jody lives. She's a 70 odd-year-old widower, who is constantly very first with any chatter. Next up is Graham's house, he's in his 50's. Next is Sheila's house, she's a huge Irish lady in her 60's. Then last on this site is the removed house where Steve and Mandy live with their 2 teenage children. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we start with Linda's house. Next is our home. Last on the row was a bloke who worked someplace in the City.
