We have a no smoking policy in our house, implemented on the majority (me & my dad) by the minority (my mother). This indicates that whenever we want to smoke, we have to stand at the back door. From here, you can see the entryway to our neighbour's home and the fronts of two homes across the street. After smoking almost constantly when the depression embeded in, I began to see the comings and goings of the people in the street. I began to detect when the mums walked their kids to school when they returned when they headed out shopping, when they took the pet dog for a walk, and when they sat in the garden. With nothing else to do, my mind filed away the routine times and I would discover myself subconsciously having a cigarette when these females set about their everyday routines.

November, and by now I'm on speaking terms with many of the people who walk past the house. I started with a friendly hello and progressed to the point where I typically walk down to the garden gate and have a chat. A lot of people would interrupt me now, and state that many females at home do what I do, chat and stop with the other females. It's a extremely small street, 8 semi-detached homes and 1 removed (that's 5 structures in all). Then last on this site is the separated home where Steve and Mandy cope with their two teenage sons. They are in their late 30's.

On the right-hand side of the roadway, we begin with Linda's house. Next is our house. Last on the row was a chap who worked someplace in the City.
